Join Dr. Marty Jopson, the One Show science bloke from the telly, for a week full of spectacular live science delivered direct to your home. During each weekday of the February half-term Marty will show off a different selection of fascinating demonstrations from high voltage physics to viruses under a microscope. The shows are aimed at 8 to 14 year olds, but may appeal to younger or older participants.
Each day’s session will begin at 10am. The shows will last 45mins and will be followed by 15mins Q&A, where you can get your questions in!
Monday 15th February
Taming Electricity – From home-made batteries, the simplest electric motors to deadly one million volt sparks. This show explains them all.
Tuesday 16th February
Stunt Science – A show with fireballs, karate, the Pendulum of DOOM and an eggy mess. Marty takes a risk and explains the maths that keeps him safe.
Wednesday 17th February
Garden Monsters – Marvel at microscopic wonders from the garden. Take a really close up look at hideous beasts, some of them still very much alive.
Thursday 18th February
Static Magic – With the power of the electron behold the floating orb, meet The Beast and un-pluck a chicken. A hair raising show with a painful explosion.
Friday 19th February
Invisible World – The science of the smallest living things from cells, to bacteria and even what Corona virus looks like. And yes, there will be blood.
The live shows are on Zoom, with a link sent out each morning. Each show will be subtitled. If you miss a show, you can catch up by watching back on YouTube. The recorded shows will be online until the 28th February. These are not publicly viewable, you will receive a link to the video recording if you have booked a ticket.
A ticket for the whole week is £40 + booking fee (covering all 5 days of shows). Tickets for individual shows are £10 + booking fee.
We ask for your permission to share your email address with Marty Jopson, so that he can provide you with the zoom / youtube links. It will not be used for any other reason.
Under 16s should participate with an accompanying adult in the room. You can see Marty, but he can’t see you. Only Marty’s camera and microphone are active. Attendees camera and microphone are disabled. The chat function within Zoom is disabled. The Q&A is monitored, inappropriate postings will be immediately deleted and the poster will be warned. Repeat offenders will be removed from the Zoom show with no refund offered. The performer, Marty Jopson holds a DBS certificate.
