Otley Boats: Weather permitting, children aged 15 and under go free when accompanied by a paying adult. Offer valid Thursday 2nd June – Sunday 5th June. Please check Otley Boats Facebook page for up-to-date information.
Otley Pub Club: Otley’s pubs have got a new name! Go have a pint!
Window-Dressing Competition: As usual, Otley Carnival is holding a window-dressing competition. This year’s theme combines the Carnival’s 40th Anniversary with the Platinum Jubilee. Which one’s your favourite?
Thursday 2nd June
Jubilee Jaunt with the Otley Walking Festival: Meet Stuart Fildes & Ruth Blackwell at the Jubilee Clock on Market Place at 10am, for a 12-mile jaunt taking in Clifton, Farnley, Leathley, Pool-in-Wharfedale and Otley Chevin. Calling in at the Royalty and finishing in another of Otley’s pubs. (7hrs)
Proclamation: See award-winning Otley Bellman Terry Ford in Market Place at 2pm and hear the official Platinum Jubilee proclamation.
Sky Light Beacon: The Sky Light Beacon on Otley Chevin will be one of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Community Beacons being lit across the country and the Commonwealth. The Beacon will be at Surprise View and will be lit at 9.45pm by the Mayor of Otley, Cllr Linda Hoare.
The lighting of the beacon will be preceded by a proclamation by Terry Ford, a reading of the specially commissioned poem ‘A Song of Seven Decades’ by Matthew Stoppard, as well as the bugle call ‘Majesty’ performed by David Sexton of Otley Brass Band and the Commonwealth Song ‘A Life Lived with Grace’ performed by Richard Sabey of the Woolpack Studios.
Saturday 4th June
Film Screening: ‘The Queen’ (2006) Otley Film Society & Otley Courthouse present a screening of Stephen Frears’ ‘The Queen’, starring Helen Mirren. The film will start at 7.30pm. Tickets are £6 from the Courthouse box office, here.
Sunday 5th June
Service of Thanksgiving: A service of thanksgiving will be held at the Bridge Church at 10.30am.
Jubilee Lunch on Market Place: Bring your own lunch, chairs and picnic blanket and join us on Market Place for a street party! Featuring Otley’s Ukulele Orchestra and the Woolpack Choir led by Richard & Jen for musical entertainment and with free craft activities for children with Vickie Orton. 12noon to 3pm
Quarter Peal: At 3pm listen out for the Bell Ringers of All Saint’s Parish Church. They will be ringing a Quarter Peal on 6 bells, lasting about 1hr!
Monday 6th June
Sport Chevin Jubilee Festival of Sports: Join Sport Chevin, Prince Henry’s and local sports clubs between 6pm-8.30pm and try out a whole range of sports at Prince Henry’s Grammar School. A hands-on evening of celebration of sport – whether you know what you are doing or you want to try something new, have fun having a go at all sorts! From rugby, football and netball to cycling and athletics and everything in between, we’ve got a host of sports for you to try. Free entry. For more information click here.
