School holiday activities

Let Otley Courthouse take away that initial panic of the school holidays!!
We always have a jam packed range of events, workshops, films and activities to keep the little ones entertained and to stop the boredom kicking in.

Here are our list of events that we have coming up.

 

Wednesday 2nd August, 11am – 3pm – Chapel FM Live Broadcast

As part of our Courthouse radio project, we are teaming up with Chapel FM Arts Centre, home to community radio station East Leeds FM, to produce our first ever radio broadcasts from the Courthouse.  If you are aged between 10-14 and would like to have a go at producing and presenting your very own radio programmes live from one of our cells in the Courthouse, then this is a chance to see how East Leeds FM was set up and join them on a live broadcast.  Transport to and from the Courthouse to Chapel FM in Seacroft is included.  Drinks are also provided.  All you have to do is bring yourselves, something to eat and loads of enthusiasm.

Tickets are £5 per child, for ages 10-14

Tickets include transport, the workshop and refreshments.  Children should bring their own packed lunch.  Places are limited to 15 children.

These workshops have been made possible thanks to funding from Leeds City Council, Outer North West Community Committee.

 

Tuesday 8th & Wednesday 9th August, 10am-1pm – Lego Robotics

Come and join Junior STEM for a morning of fantastic Lego fun.  Junior STEM specialise in computer and engineering technology, and this summer is a chance for all you budding master builders to see your Lego creations brought to life.  Using computer software, motor and sensors, you can build a hungry alligator and watch its jaws snap.  Or build a train and see it move along.  This is a great chance to build all kinds of things and make them move using the power of technology.

PLEASE NOTE THAT BOTH OF THESE WORKSHOPS ARE NOW SOLD OUT.

Tickets are £5 per child, per session, for ages 7+

Please note that children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

 

Wednesday 16th – Friday 18th August, 11am-3pm – Radio & Podcast Workshops

We are teaming up with Chapel FM Arts Centre to produce our first-ever radio broadcasts from the Courthouse.  Following on from our trip to Chapel FM HQ, this is now your chance to have a go at producing and presenting your very own radio programme.  At the end of the 3 days, you will get the chance to produce a podcast which will be downloadable and available for everyone to listen to.  And who knows, this might be the start of a regular and permanent Courthouse radio station.  You can come to all 3 days, 2 days or just 1, as long as your bring loads of ideas and get stuck in!

Tickets are £5 per child, per day, for ages 10-14

Each £5 ticket includes the day’s workshop drinks.  All children should bring their own packed lunch.

Monday 21st – Friday 25th August, 9.30am – 3.30pm, Disney Magic Performance Summer School

 

 

Performance Drama School are back again for a week long summer school, which will be a collaboration of musical and dance techniques, ending the week with a show.

Tickets are £100 per child (2nd child from the same family £90), for ages 4-14

Wednesday 30th August, 10am – 12pm, Marbling & Book Binding Workshop

Join us for a marbling and book binding workshop with artist Kim Searle.  Use traditional marbling techniques to create patterned paper.  Kim will provide one to one tuition to enable you to create your own monotype prints.  You will then create your own unique notebooks with Japanese stab book binding, as you create your own pattern edging and apply your marbled prints to your finished notebooks.  Perfect to give as gifts or to keep for your own use.

Tickets are £5 per child, for ages 6+

Please note that children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Otley Courthouse is a unique development run by people in Otley, West Yorkshire. After an eight year development period we transformed a redundant nineteenth century magistrates court into a unique arts and resource centre for our community.
