The story of Christ’s death and resurrection has dominated western culture for the past 2000 years and is unquestionably one of the most popular subjects in Western art.
As this film shows, artists from as early as the third century to those of the modern day have been drawn to this hugely significant moment in our cultural heritage. Whatever one’s religious beliefs may be, one can hardly fail to be moved by the emotion of these extraordinary paintings, nor be amazed by the sheer quality of works by the likes of Michelangelo, Leonardo, Titian, Raphael, Rembrandt and so many more.
Shot on location in Jerusalem, United States and throughout Europe, the film explores the different ways artists have depicted the Easter story through the ages.
