Sashiko Embroidery Workshop
Advance Price: £36
Learn the gentle Japanese art of Sashiko, a traditional embroidery technique.
No previous sewing experience is needed. Vickie will guide you through this meditative, slow stitch process to make your own Sashiko squares.
You will learn about Sashiko threads, a brief history of Sashiko and the different design patterns. We will use hitomezashi (one stitch sashiko) which involves stitching on a grid using a basic running stitch to create different designs.
Traditionally used as a decorative way to repair and patch clothes, Sashiko is now enjoying a resurgence and can be used in many different ways from upcycling clothes to cushion covers, bags and brooches, or even repairing and patching clothes!
This workshop is led by local artist and professional workshop leader Vickie Orton, who spreads creativity and happiness across Yorkshire.
All materials are provided. Kits available to purchase if you wish to continue with this relaxing sewing technique.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided during the break.
