Children’s Music and Storytelling Workshop – Part of the Seasons of Culture Programme 2026

Join us for a fun packed day of music and creativity! Age 7 – 12
10.30am – 3pm
Join us for a fun and creative adventure inspired by the beautiful native plants and wildlife around Otley Riverbank.
Using the calls of local birds and other wildlife as inspiration, children will experiment with rhythm and sound, and discover more about the amazing habitats right on their doorstep. The children will try out a range of instruments to discover the variety of sounds available and how these can be manipulated through beat, rhythm and dynamics. All of the children will be encouraged to compose, play and perform to tell a story through song, sounds and music.
Throughout the afternoon the children will explore model creation to design and make a chosen character from the story. We will also create a ‘backdrop set’ using a variety of art materials.
The day concludes with a vibrant retelling of the story within the supportive environment of the workshop, using the musical compositions and models. Children will be both audience members and performers.
The workshop is led by Abi James, a qualified teacher and Arts Award Advisor and Kevin James, a professional musician and music teacher. Both teach music and art extensively to children and adults in the local area, whilst also running choirs, ukulele groups and craft workshops.
Packed lunch required.
Please buy 1 ticket per child attending. Parents/carers do not need to stay.
This project is part of the Seasons of Culture Programme funded by West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Leeds City Council through the Leeds Cultural Investment Programme.
