Yorkshire Saxophone Choir was formed in 2001 by Harrogate-based instrumental tutors Debbie Scherer and Sarah Jobson as the UK’s first independent saxophone orchestra. It comprises twelve saxophonists from across Yorkshire, featuring instruments from sopranino to bass.
The ensemble plays a wide range of music from Baroque to rock, including classical, jazz, Latin, pop, and world music. It has commissioned many new works and arrangements, including anniversary pieces by Martin Ellerby and Jenni Watson, and premieres by Don Ashton, Keiron Anderson, Melanie Thorne, and Philip Skelton.
The group released Sax for Twelve in 2009 and has performed at the World Saxophone Congress.
